PHOTOGRAPHY

I photograph what makes me stop and look.

I've always been drawn to the moments that happen when people aren't thinking about the camera—the expressions, movement, interactions and little details that would disappear if no one was paying attention.

One of the things I hear most from clients is, “I didn't even know you were there.” They'll see a photograph afterward and be amazed because they never saw me take it.

That's intentional.

I don't want people to spend an entire experience aware of me or my camera. I move quietly, observe and let things happen. Some of my favorite photographs come from moments no one knew I was watching.

My job isn't to interrupt the moment to create the photograph. It's to recognize the photograph already happening.

I've photographed throughout the U.S. and while traveling in Kenya, South Africa and Ethiopia, with my work spanning documentary, travel, ritual and ceremonial photography, retreats, lifestyle, culture, brands and products.

RITUAL + CEREMONIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Some moments require more than knowing how to use a camera. They require knowing when to photograph, when to move, when to be still and when the camera needs to come down.

I photograph rituals and ceremonies with respect for the people, the space and what is taking place. My approach is quiet and observational, allowing the ceremony to remain the ceremony—not turning it into a photo shoot.

I also understand the difference between what is sacred and what is secret. Not every part of a ritual or ceremony is meant to be photographed, documented or shared. I respect those boundaries.

Some moments are meant to be captured. Some are meant to remain with the people who experienced them. I know the difference.

RETREAT PHOTOGRAPHY

A retreat is an entire story.

I document the experience as it unfolds—the gatherings, practices, meals, movement, laughter, quiet moments, environment and all the things happening in between the scheduled activities.

Because I work unobtrusively, guests can stay present in their experience instead of constantly feeling like they're being photographed.

The result is a collection of images that allows the host and participants to look back and see moments they may not have even realized were happening.

TRAVEL + DOCUMENTARY

Through Ubuciko Around the Globe, I photograph the people, art, food, architecture, culture and everyday details I encounter while traveling .

I'm interested in more than arriving somewhere with a predetermined shot list. I want to pay attention to what a place actually gives me—including the moments I couldn't have planned before I arrived.

LIFESTYLE + BRAND

I also create photography for artists, makers, businesses, hotels, restaurants, products and brands looking for imagery with personality rather than something that feels overly staged.
