ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ubuciko means “art/creativity” in isiZulu—and creativity has never been just one thing for me.

I'm Rana, also known as Ubuciko. I'm a multidisciplinary artist, photographer and designer with a love for creating across mediums. I work in photography, graphic design, stationery, digital art and furniture, and I've spent years working with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign to bring ideas from my head into something people can actually see, hold, use or experience.

One day I may be designing a company logo. Another day I'm creating a greeting card, working on a piece of furniture, editing a photograph or turning something I captured halfway across the world into a new piece of art.

That's really the connection between everything I create:

I find art in everything.

Travel has become another extension of that creativity. Through Ubuciko Around the Globe, I photograph and document the art, people, food, architecture, design, culture and everyday details I encounter while traveling. My experiences in places like Kenya, South Africa and Ethiopia have influenced my photography and continue to inspire new work.

Ubuciko Stationery brings another part of that creativity to paper through original greeting cards, postcards and designs created from my artwork, photography and ideas.

But UBUCIKO isn't limited to what's currently in the shop.

It's photography. Graphic design. Furniture. Stationery. Digital art. Travel. Storytelling. And whatever medium makes sense for the idea I'm trying to bring to life.

These next chapters of life, I'm also giving myself the freedom to explore all of those parts of my creativity instead of trying to fit myself—or my work—into one box.
